Former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has identified the persistent neglect of persons with disabilities as a major driver of the rise in street begging across the country.
He made the observation while addressing the social and economic challenges facing vulnerable groups.
According to Ganduje, systemic exclusion from education, employment, and social support systems leaves many persons with disabilities without viable alternatives for livelihood.
He noted that this marginalization forces individuals into begging as a means of survival, perpetuating cycles of poverty and dependency.
He called for stronger policy implementation, inclusive programs, and sustained investment in accessibility and empowerment initiatives.
Addressing these gaps, he argued, is essential to reducing street begging and ensuring that persons with disabilities can participate fully in society.
