Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has urged President Bola Tinubu to adopt cost-reflective electricity tariffs and recapitalize distribution companies as key steps to overhaul Nigeria’s power sector.
The proposals were contained in a letter to the president dated April 22, which set out policy measures aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms and improving power supply nationwide.
In the communication, Adelabu argued that tariffs aligned with actual service costs are vital to restoring financial stability across the electricity value chain.
He further noted that strengthening the capital base of DisCos would boost their capacity to reduce losses, upgrade infrastructure, and deliver more reliable service to consumers.
The recommendations are positioned as part of a wider framework to resolve long-standing structural issues in the sector. They are intended to guide further policy action toward achieving stable and accessible electricity for households and businesses across the country.
