Senate Blocks Fresh Bid to Curb Trump’s War Powers on Iran

The United States Senate has once again declined to advance a war powers resolution designed to restrict President Donald Trump’s authority to conduct military operations against Iran.

The latest attempt, which sought to require explicit congressional approval for any continued hostilities, failed to secure the necessary support and was rejected primarily along party lines.

This marks another unsuccessful effort by Democratic lawmakers to assert Congress’s constitutional role in decisions involving the use of military force.

The resolution would have directed the withdrawal of U.S. armed forces from hostilities with Iran unless Congress formally authorized further action or declared war.

Despite repeated attempts, the Senate has consistently blocked such measures amid the ongoing conflict. The vote underscores the Republican majority’s backing of the administration’s approach to the situation in Iran.

With only limited cross-party support, the outcome reinforces the executive branch’s current latitude in managing military engagements, while highlighting persistent divisions in Congress over the balance of war-making powers between the legislative and executive branches.
