The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested a woman identified as Fatima Muhammed on Tuesday, 7 April 2025, on allegations of naira mutilation.
The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on TikTok in which the suspect was observed using a five-hundred-naira banknote to wipe mucus from her nose.
Operatives of the Commission promptly traced her location within the Maiduguri metropolis and effected her arrest.
Fatima Muhammed is presently being held at the EFCC’s Maiduguri detention facility, where investigations into the matter are actively ongoing. She is expected to be arraigned in court once the investigative process is completed.
