Abel Joro Gershon, an undergraduate student at the University of Jos pursuing a degree in Building at the 300 level, has succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Palm Sunday, when gunmen targeted a gathering spot in the community, resulting in multiple casualties.
Joro, who resided in Rukuba near the university campus, was among those critically wounded and was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
Despite receiving intensive medical attention, the young student passed away on Easter Sunday after a prolonged struggle for survival.
His death has been confirmed by university sources and fellow students, who have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of yet another member of the campus community.
The attack also affected additional students and university personnel, prompting the institution to suspend scheduled examinations as a mark of respect and caution.
This unfortunate event highlights the persistent security challenges in Plateau State, where communal violence continues to claim innocent lives and disrupt academic activities.
The university community and the wider public have extended condolences to the bereaved family, while calls for enhanced security measures in the region grow stronger in the wake of the tragedy.
