The Celestial Church of Christ has formally disassociated itself from Pastor Afolabi Hodonu following his arrest by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Hodonu, aged 45 and previously overseeing a branch of the church at Agonvi Sea Beach in the Sakpo area of the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos State, was detained along with his wife, Success Hodonu, aged 35.
The couple faces allegations related to the unlawful possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics. On 2 April 2026, NDLEA personnel intercepted the pair at the Gbaji checkpoint during a routine operation.
A thorough search of their Honda Pilot SUV revealed approximately 11 kilograms of skunk cleverly concealed within hidden compartments of the vehicle.
This incident forms part of broader enforcement efforts by the agency to curb drug trafficking along key routes in the country.
In an official statement, the Celestial Church of Christ unequivocally rejected any affiliation with the pastor’s alleged conduct, stressing that his actions stand in direct contradiction to the organisation’s core principles of integrity, morality, and adherence to the law.
The church reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ethical standards and urged its members to uphold the values that define its spiritual mission.
