A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Abuja on Saturday when a female officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) tragically lost her life.
The accident occurred amid a routine “show of force” drill conducted by the Corps’ Female Strike Force unit, commonly known as the Female Squad.
What began as a planned tactical display and convoy operation ended in disaster when one of the participating patrol vans struck the officer and passed over her.
According to accounts from witnesses and video evidence that has since circulated widely, the mishap took place as the convoy performed a maneuver in an open area, likely close to NSCDC facilities in the Federal Capital Territory.
The leading vehicle, clearly marked with “Female Squad” signage, made contact during the turn, resulting in the officer being pinned under its wheels.
Emergency responders acted swiftly to lift the vehicle and transport her for medical attention, but she was confirmed deceased either at the location or soon after arrival at a healthcare facility.
The NSCDC’s spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, has acknowledged the event as an unfortunate operational mishap during the controlled simulation.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to ascertain the contributing factors, which could include elements such as vehicle control, formation positioning, or other safety protocol lapses.
This sorrowful occurrence has deeply affected the security sector and serves as a somber reminder of the dangers present even in structured training scenarios.
