On Thursday, 11 December 2025, the Abuja Zonal Directorate of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the Commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps, Dickson Akoh, and the organisation’s Finance Director, Omolala Aminat Ahmed, before Justice Hamza Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
The duo faced formal charges contained in a two-count indictment centred on alleged financial misconduct involving funds belonging to the Peace Corps. The charges accuse the defendants of engaging in criminal conspiracy during 2024 within the Federal Capital Territory.
Specifically, they are alleged to have dishonestly diverted N46 million from a N60 million budgetary allocation that had been approved for the procurement of official badges and related items, redirecting the money for unauthorised personal use.
These actions are said to contravene provisions of the Penal Code applicable in the FCT.Both Akoh and Ahmed pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in open court.
The lead prosecution counsel, Khalid Sanusi, urged the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial, while defence counsel did not oppose the request.Justice Yusuf adjourned the matter to 25 February 2026 for the hearing to begin.
In the meantime, he admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N5 million, with the condition that each provides one surety who is a responsible resident of Abuja and can produce evidence of means. The case will continue under close judicial and public scrutiny as the anti-graft agency seeks to establish its allegations of misappropriation.
