On November 2, 2025, Federal Road Safety Corps officer Lasisi Funmilayo, aged 38, and her 12-year-old daughter Sewa disappeared after leaving their residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
What began as a missing-persons case soon escalated into a homicide investigation when police followed leads to Osun State and uncovered evidence of a ritual murder orchestrated by Funmilayo’s boyfriend, 40-year-old businessman Victor Fajemirokun.Fajemirokun confessed that he had grown convinced Funmilayo was using supernatural means to sabotage his prosperity.
After discovering a TikTok-based herbalist, Gboyega Daramola (also known as Aberefa), he arranged what he described as a “spiritual cleansing” session. Under this pretext, he persuaded Funmilayo to travel with her daughter from Ogun State to Ijebu-Jesa in Osun State.
Once there, the victims were taken to Daramola’s shrine and subsequently handed over to accomplices who led them into nearby bush for the ritual. Two suspects—herbalists Gboyega Daramola and Sunday James—were apprehended on November 16.
James admitted to slitting the throats of both mother and child on Daramola’s orders and stated that he and two additional suspects, Kehinde and Idowu, dismembered the bodies and removed vital organs.
The mutilated remains were later recovered from Esa-Odo Dam and surrounding vegetation and transferred to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital for postmortem examination.
Daramola has denied direct involvement in the killings but confirmed receiving payment from Fajemirokun.Following an intensive manhunt, police located Fajemirokun in Ghana with assistance from Interpol. He was extradited back to Nigeria and is now detained along with Daramola and James.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has assured the public that the investigation continues, with efforts underway to arrest the remaining suspects. All individuals implicated will face prosecution upon conclusion of the inquiry.
