Paystack Dismisses Co‑Founder Ezra Olubi Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Paystack, the Nigerian fintech company that was acquired by Stripe in 2020, has terminated the employment of its co‑founder and chief technology officer, Ezra Olubi, following public allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct with a junior employee.

The controversy gained attention in mid‑November after a social‑media post alleging abusive behaviour went viral, prompting users to circulate a series of explicit tweets from Olubi’s earlier years.

In response, Paystack suspended Olubi and announced that it would conduct a formal investigation, indicating that an independent reviewer would be appointed to examine the matter. Olubi, however, contends that he was dismissed before the investigation could be completed and that he was not afforded a meeting or an opportunity to respond to the accusations.

He asserts that the termination breaches the terms of his suspension and the company’s internal policies, and his legal team is now reviewing the procedural aspects of the dismissal.

The episode has reignited discussions about workplace accountability and governance within Africa’s rapidly growing technology sector, where several high‑profile misconduct cases have recently surfaced. Paystack has not issued a further public statement, and it remains unclear whether its parent company, Stripe, will comment as the situation develops.
