Andreas Schjelderup Handed Convicted for Sharing Sexual Video Involving Minors

Andreas Schjelderup, a 21‑year‑old striker who has been a standout for both Benfica and Norway’s senior squad, was recently convicted in a Danish court of sharing a video that featured sexual content involving two minors.

The incident came to light while the Norwegian team was preparing for crucial World Cup qualifying matches, casting a shadow over the young player’s rising profile.

During the hearing, Schjelderup admitted to having forwarded the clip to a small group of acquaintances and acknowledged that the material was illegal. He expressed remorse for his actions, describing the decision as a lapse in judgment that he deeply regretted.

The court recognized his admission and cooperation, opting for a lenient sentence. The judge imposed a 14‑day prison term that was suspended, meaning Schjelderup will not serve time unless he commits a further offence within the probationary period.

In addition to the suspended sentence, he was placed on probation and ordered to cover the legal costs associated with the case.

The ruling emphasized the seriousness of distributing child sexual material while also noting the player’s youth and lack of prior convictions.

Norwegian football officials, including national‑team coach Ståle Solbakken, responded with a mixture of disappointment and support.

Solbakken described the incident as an “unwise mistake” but stressed that Schjelderup’s talent and age warrant an opportunity for redemption.

The episode has sparked broader discussion about the responsibilities of young athletes in the digital age and the pressures they face as they ascend to the professional level.
