Nigerian media outlet The Cable reported that the smartphones of the nation’s two most prominent business figures Aliko Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, and Femi Otedola, chairman of First HoldCo Plc were infiltrated by hackers in the past week.
Sources close to both executives confirmed the breaches, indicating that the cyber intrusions occurred recently and were not isolated incidents.According to insiders, Otedola’s phone was compromised a single time, whereas Dangote’s device suffered two separate attacks within a 48‑hour span.
The perpetrators quickly moved to extort money from the moguls, but it remains unclear whether the devices have been fully recovered and whether any law‑enforcement agencies have been formally engaged in the investigation.
Despite the unsettling cyber‑sneak attack, the two billionaires are known for their long‑standing camaraderie.
Otedola recently appeared at a public event where Dangote unveiled a massive expansion of his refinery raising its capacity from 650,000 bpd to 1.4 million bpd and publicly praised his friend as “Africa’s pride,” emphasizing that the project will serve as a lasting legacy for generations.
