NSCDC Honors Volunteer Who Returned Over N20 Million Left in Kano Tricycle

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) publicly commended a volunteer, Nura Abdullahi, for returning more than twenty million naira that a passenger had left behind in a commercial tricycle in Kano.

During a ceremony on Friday, Zone 12 Commander Amos Abiodun‑Taiwo presented Abdullahi with a letter of recognition, explaining that the money belonged to Alhaji Mustafa of Katsina State, who had inadvertently left a bag containing the cash when he alighted. Abdullahi, who had borrowed Mustafa’s phone earlier, used the last‑dialed number to locate and contact the owner.

Abiodun‑Taiwo highlighted the rarity of such honesty, especially given the current economic hardships in Nigeria. He noted that Abdullahi is a volunteer rather than a regular NSCDC staff member and that he reportedly had less than twenty thousand naira in his own account, underscoring the selfless nature of his action.

After verifying the incident, the command briefed the Commandant‑General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who directed that Abdullahi be celebrated as a model of integrity within the corps.

The commander quoted the Commandant‑General’s praise, describing Abdullahi as “a good ambassador of his family, the NSCDC, and Nigeria at large,” and urged the public to emulate his sincerity. He stressed that moral values remain vital regardless of economic challenges and warned that dishonesty would erode personal peace.

Finally, Abiodun‑Taiwo assured that Abdullahi would receive a “handsome reward” for his exemplary conduct, reinforcing the Corps’ commitment to recognizing and encouraging ethical behaviour among its members and the wider community.
