Adjournment in EFCC Trial of Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja postponed the hearing of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Adoza Bello to 11 November 2025. Bello is charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with misappropriating ₦80.2 billion from the state’s treasury.

The adjournment followed a full day of proceedings that included continued cross‑examination of the fourth prosecution witness and testimony from three additional bank witnesses.

Mashelia Arhyel of Zenith Bank confirmed that Abdulsalam Hudu and Comfort Olufunke each withdrew multiple ₦10 million amounts from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account and that several hotels received funds from the same account. After the defence finished questioning her, the prosecution declined to re‑examine, and she was discharged.

Jesutoni Akoni of Ecobank presented account statements for Moses Wadzu Ileku showing deposits of ₦3 million to ₦20 million by various individuals. Mohammed Bello Hassan of Keystone Bank produced records for Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company indicating a ₦100 million transfer from Maigari Murtala and Yusuf Mubarak, though he admitted he had no personal knowledge of those senders.

Finally, Olomotane Egoro of Access Bank supplied twelve document bundles in response to a subpoena, noting that while some account‑opening files were unavailable, sufficient customer data had been extracted from the bank’s database. All documents were admitted without objection.

Justice Nwite concluded the session by scheduling the next hearing for the following day to continue the trial. The case, which has attracted considerable public and media attention because of the large sum involved and the defendant’s high profile, will resume as the court reviews the remaining evidence and proceeds toward a verdict.
