Nigeria Is a Country Of Particular Concern -Donald Trump

Donald Trump just announced that Nigeria is now a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) because, he says, Christianity faces an “existential threat” there. In a Friday Truth Social post he claimed “Thousands of Christians are being killed.

Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” and he’s putting Nigeria on the State Department’s list of nations with severe religious‑freedom violations alongside China, North Korea, Pakistan, etc.

He’s urging U.S. Representatives Riley Moore, Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee to investigate, arguing the U.S. “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening.”

The designation could open the door to sanctions or other pressure, though Nigerian officials, including Information Minister Mohammed Idris, reject the “genocide” narrative, saying the violence is more complex and affects all faiths.

The move follows reports that 70 % of Christians killed worldwide this year were in Nigeria, with estimates of 4,000–8,000 murders a year, often blamed on Boko Haram, ISWAP and Fulani militias.

Christian groups welcome the attention, while analysts point out the designation oversimplifies a mix of criminal, communal and political factors.
