Ebonyi State Governor Increase Doctors Salary by 300%

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has indeed increased the salary of newly employed medical doctors working at general hospitals in Ebonyi State. The new salary is a minimum of ₦500,000, up from ₦150,000.

This move aims to attract skilled professionals, fill human resource gaps, and reduce brain drain in the state’s healthcare system.

The salary increase is part of the state’s health activation program, which includes a ₦10 billion investment in upgrading health facilities and strengthening the healthcare workforce.

The governor has also recruited 195 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory scientists, to be deployed across hospitals in the state.

Governor Nwifuru emphasized that this initiative is not just about salaries but also about rebuilding trust in public healthcare and providing quality medical care to the people of Ebonyi State.

He stated, “This is not just about salaries—it’s about rebuilding trust in public healthcare. It’s about giving people in Ebonyi a reason to believe quality medical care is their right”.

The governor’s decision aligns with his administration’s Peoples Charter of Needs, which prioritizes health. The state government is also exploring partnerships for healthcare financing and digital health systems to further improve the healthcare sector.

Additionally, plans are underway to establish specialist hospitals in each of the state’s three senatorial zones to provide medical services and reduce dependence on medical tourism.
