PSG Win Equals Trophyless Season for Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) eliminated Arsenal from the UEFA Champions League after a 2-1 win in the second leg of their semi-final tie at the Parc des Princes. The French side secured a 3-1 aggregate victory, booking their spot in the final against Inter Milan.

PSG’s Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring with a ferocious strike from the edge of the box after a half-cleared free-kick. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya made a crucial save to deny Vitinha’s penalty, but the Gunners’ defensive slip-up allowed Achraf Hakimi to score PSG’s second goal. Bukayo Saka pulled one back for Arsenal, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was instrumental in PSG’s victory, making several spectacular saves to deny Arsenal’s attackers, including Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard. His performance marked a turnaround in his reputation, showcasing his abilities as a top-class goalkeeper.

Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the early stages but failed to capitalize on their chances. The Gunners’ inability to score from set-pieces and their defensive lapses ultimately cost them the tie. Arsenal now focuses on securing a Champions League spot for next season, needing four points from their remaining three Premier League games.

PSG will face Inter Milan in the Champions League final on May 31 at the Allianz Arena. The French side has shown significant improvement in their recent performances, and their young squad’s maturity was evident in their win over Arsenal.
