Explosion Rocks the Akuku Toru Area of Rivers State

Another explosion has rocked Rivers State, hitting the Soku oil facility in Akuku Toru Local Government Area, just a week after a significant explosion occurred at the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area.

The Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) confirmed the explosion on Sunday, reporting that it was accompanied by fireballs and that the fire was still ongoing as of their report.

This latest explosion has raised concerns about the state’s oil infrastructure and the potential consequences of these incidents. It’s worth noting that Renaissance, the company operating the Soku gas plant, has denied reports of a gas explosion at its facility, stating that operations are running smoothly and all facilities are secure.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear, with speculations ranging from equipment failure to sabotage or deliberate attack. This incident marks the third explosion at oil facilities in Rivers State within a week, intensifying concerns over the state’s oil infrastructure.
