Arewa Youth Pull Support For Natasha, Demand reversal of suspension

The controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension is escalating, with the Arewa Youth Assembly For Good Leadership accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of discriminatory and anti-democratic practices targeting the North. The group is demanding an immediate reversal of the suspension, which they deem unjustified.

Ambassador Abdul Danbature, Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly, expressed outrage at the treatment of Northern Senators under Akpabio’s leadership, claiming that his actions have systematically undermined Northern representation. The group questioned the motives behind Akpoti’s suspension, which followed her vocal criticism of policies affecting the North.

The Arewa Youth Assembly believes that the suspension is part of a broader pattern of selective justice, where Northern Senators are unfairly targeted for their positions and beliefs. They’ve given Akpabio a 48-hour ultimatum to reverse the suspension, threatening to occupy the National Assembly and stage mass protests if their demands are not met.

The group’s concerns include:

  • Discriminatory practices: Akpabio’s actions are seen as targeting Northern Senators and undermining their representation.

  • Selective justice: The suspension is perceived as part of a broader pattern of unfair treatment against Northern Senators.

  • Unity of the country: The Arewa Youth Assembly believes that Akpabio’s leadership is creating divisions within the Senate and undermining the unity of the country. The situation is tense, with the group warning of civil protests across Northern Nigeria if their demands are not met.
