Jose Mourinho has finally broken his silence on the racism allegations made against him by Galatasaray. In an exclusive interview, Mourinho expressed his thoughts on the matter, stating that Galatasaray’s accusations “backfired” due to his well-documented connections with Africa, African people, and African players.
Mourinho emphasized that everyone knows his personality and values, and being racist is “exactly the opposite” of who he is.
He also thanked those who supported him, particularly his former players, including Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, who publicly defended him against the allegations.
The controversy began when Galatasaray accused Mourinho of making racist remarks during a match between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. Mourinho had commented on the Galatasaray bench “jumping like monkeys” to get one of his players sent off.
The Turkish Football Federation initially handed Mourinho a four-game touchline ban and a £35,000 fine, but later reduced the punishment to two matches and £12,200. Mourinho has now filed a lawsuit against Galatasaray, seeking damages of 1,907,000 Turkish Lira (£41,000).
