A 21-year-old student of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, Zarah Abubakar Shehu, has tragically died in captivity four months after her abduction. She was taken from her home in Gusau on November 3, 2024, along with her two siblings, by armed bandits who initially demanded a ransom of N35 million.
After negotiations, the kidnappers agreed to accept a reduced ransom of N10 million, which was paid.
However, they refused to release Zarah, instead demanding additional items, including four motorcycles and four cartons of engine oil. These items were eventually secured after months of efforts to meet the demands.
In a devastating twist, when the kidnappers’ leader was informed that the items had been secured, he revealed that Zarah had already died and been buried two days earlier. The news has left her family in shock and grief, particularly as Zarah was the only daughter of her mother.
