Labour Congress shutdown Ibadan Disco office over Illegal Dismissals

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken a bold stand against the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) by shutting down its operations in protest of the recent sacking of over 3,000 workers. This massive protest, staged by the Oyo State chapter of the NLC, brought activities at IBEDC to a grinding halt on Tuesday.

The NLC’s action is a clear demonstration of its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and interests. By taking a firm stance against IBEDC’s decision to sack such a large number of employees, the NLC is sending a strong message that workers will not be treated unfairly.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time workers have protested against mass sackings in Nigeria. In 2015, workers at Lacasera Company Plc staged a protest after the company sacked 700 employees . These incidents highlight the need for stronger labor laws and protections for workers in Nigeria.
