Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has arrived at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court for the ruling on his bail application regarding alleged N110 billion money laundering and fraud charges. Bello is facing a 19-count charge bordering on money laundering, alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, and others. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been prosecuting the case, alleging that Bello and his co-defendants diverted billions of naira from the Kogi State treasury, laundering the funds through various means, including the purchase of properties and investments in businesses.
The court had previously issued a public summons against Bello due to his failure to appear for arraignment. The EFCC had also complied with the court’s order to publish the summons in a national newspaper. As the case unfolds, the EFCC has maintained its stance on prosecuting Bello, emphasizing its commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring that those who loot public funds are held accountable. The arrival of Bello at the court today marks a significant development in the case, and many are eagerly awaiting the ruling on his bail application. The outcome of this case will likely have far-reaching implications for the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
