NAMA to resume collection of Landing fee from Helicopters

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is poised to reinstate the collection of a $300 fee for helicopter landings, following a six-month suspension. The fee’s collection was initially halted in May 2024 due to opposition from stakeholders.Tayo John, NAMA’s Director of Air Traffic Services, revealed that the agency will resume collecting the fee from helicopter operators conducting flights to and from private helipads and oil rig platforms nationwide. This move aims to mitigate NAMA’s current financial struggles.NAMA faces numerous financial challenges, including limited budgetary allocations, difficulties in revenue collection, high operational expenses, and a reliance on foreign exchange. These constraints impede the agency’s ability to upgrade its equipment, maintain infrastructure, and provide regular training for personnel, ultimately affecting the safety and efficiency of air navigation services.
