A recent report by Amnesty International has shed light on the Nigerian government’s forceful suppression of the #EndBadGovernance protests in August. The report, titled “Bloody August,” alleges that the police used live ammunition against protesters in several states, resulting in the deaths of at least 24 people.
The international organization is calling for justice and accountability for the victims and their families. They are urging the Nigerian government to conduct thorough investigations into the allegations of human rights violations and to hold those responsible accountable.
The report’s findings contradict the Nigerian Police Force’s earlier claims that they did not kill any protesters. Instead, the police attributed the deaths to various other causes, including an explosive device and a vigilante’s actions. Amnesty International’s report, however, presents a damning picture of police brutality and impunity.
