Traders in Badagry are crying out for help due to the constant harassment they face from Customs officials at checkpoints along the Badagry-Seme border. The Building Material Sellers Association of Badagry has appealed to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, to intervene and put an end to the alleged impounding of their vehicles, which transport locally manufactured iron and steel products.
The association claims that these incidents occur frequently at SAWA checkpoints and other illegal roadblocks within Badagry Local Council, hindering socio-economic development in the area. They urge the Customs officer in charge of the Badagry-Seme border to rein in his personnel, emphasizing that their constitutional duty is to monitor imported and smuggled goods, not those produced domestically.
