President Bola Tinubu has taken bold measures to address governance issues in Nigeria’s universities. The governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been dissolved, and its leadership, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh and Registrar Mrs. Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, removed due to alleged irregularities in appointment processes.
In a separate move, President Tinubu ousted Ohieku Muhammed Salami as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, following his refusal to revoke an unauthorized suspension of the Vice-Chancellor and alleged harassment of education ministry officials. To foster unity and excellence in university governance, President Tinubu also initiated a strategic leadership swap between Federal University Oye-Ekiti and Federal University Lokoja. Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba will now lead Oye-Ekiti, while Kayode Ojo takes the helm at Lokoja.
