Focus on Governance, Atiku Blows Hot

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to prioritize governance over speculation about the 2027 presidential election. This comes after Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike commented on the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2027 presidential ticket, suggesting Atiku should abandon his aspirations.

Atiku’s response, conveyed through his Special Assistant on Public Communication Phrank Shaibu, highlighted Wike’s past attempts to impose candidates on the party, noting Atiku’s triumph over Wike’s preferred candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections.Shaibu questioned Wike’s focus on the 2027 election, given his earlier assertion that Tinubu would seek re-election. Instead, Shaibu emphasized the need to address pressing issues like rising living costs and hunger.

He stressed that these concerns should take precedence over early political maneuvering for the next election, stating, “This hunger is becoming unbearable; it’s what we should be addressing, not political maneuvers for 2027” ¹.The Presidency, through Special Adviser Sunday Dare, responded by affirming its commitment to delivering on ongoing reforms and providing relief to Nigerians. Dare asserted that Tinubu’s administration is focused on governing the country, rather than engaging with Atiku’s criticisms. “We have a country to run; we are done with Atiku. Tinubu was elected by Nigerians to run this country, and that is what the administration is focusing on.
