A tragic incident unfolded yesterday in Ekenobizi, a border community between Abia and Imo states, where unidentified gunmen launched a deadly attack on an army checkpoint. The assault occurred at 6:18 a.m. when the assailants arrived in a white Lexus vehicle, catching the troops off guard. Unfortunately, two brave soldiers lost their lives in the ensuing firefight, while the attackers retreated with gunshot wounds, abandoning their vehicles. Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu believes the Joint Task Force South East Operation Udoka was the target by the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network. Despite being caught off guard, the gallant troops managed to repel the assault, forcing the attackers to flee in disarray.
The Joint Task Force has urged residents of the South East, particularly in Abia State, to come forward with credible information to help apprehend the perpetrators and curb criminal elements in the region ¹ ².In the aftermath of the attack, three deceased and two injured men in military uniform were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia where the two wounded men received necessary medical attention. The Joint Task Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, adhering to global best practices and established rules of engagement
