A shocking incident unfolded at Abuja’s international airport on December 22, 2024, as a middle-aged entrepreneur was apprehended while attempting to smuggle illicit substances to Europe. The suspect, identified as Orizu Ifeanyi Arthur, was intercepted by authorities prior to boarding a flight to Paris, where he allegedly intended to deliver the contraband.
According to officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Arthur had ingeniously concealed 74 packets of heroin and cocaine within his body. The 48-year-old businessman, who operated in Lagos Island, had reportedly been lured by a lucrative offer of €3,000 upon successful delivery of the narcotics. However, his illicit endeavor was thwarted by vigilant airport security personnel.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that Arthur was taken into custody at the boarding gate of Air France flight 844. The agency’s swift action underscores its commitment to combating the illicit drug trade and ensuring the safety of Nigerians and international travelers alike. Further investigations are expected to unravel the extent of Arthur’s involvement in the global narcotics network.
