The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has ordered the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees in the lower chamber.
The directive was communicated on Saturday through a statement signed by Sidi Ibrahim, the Clerk of the House. According to the notice, the decision takes effect right away.
Ad hoc committees are temporary panels set up by the House to handle specific assignments, investigations, or legislative tasks. With this move, all such panels currently operating will cease their activities.
No reason was given in the circular for the sweeping dissolution. However, such actions are sometimes taken to restructure legislative work, cut costs, or streamline ongoing assignments ahead of new priorities.
The development means lawmakers who were serving on those temporary committees will now revert to their standing committees and plenary duties until new panels are constituted. Further directives from the Speaker’s office are expected in the coming days.
