An Ekiti State High Court has convicted and sentenced three men to a combined total of 97 years imprisonment for their roles in the abduction of a retired Naval officer and one other victim.
The judgment was delivered after the court found them guilty of kidnapping and related offenses.
According to the prosecution, the defendants orchestrated the abduction and held the victims for ransom before their arrest by security operatives.
During the trial, the court relied on evidence and witness testimony to establish their culpability beyond reasonable doubt.
The presiding judge stated that the sentence reflects the gravity of the crime and serves as a deterrent to others.
The ruling has been welcomed by residents as a strong message that violent crime will be met with the full weight of the law in Ekiti State.
