Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the appointment of Calum McFarlane, the current Under-21 head coach, as interim first-team head coach for the remainder of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The decision follows the recent departure of head coach Liam Rosenior. McFarlane previously assumed interim responsibilities earlier in the year when Enzo Maresca left the club by mutual consent in January 2026, and he will now lead the senior squad until the conclusion of the campaign in June.
This marks McFarlane’s second spell in temporary charge of the first team. He will be supported by the existing backroom staff as the club navigates the final stretch of the season.
The move provides continuity and stability during a period of transition, allowing the squad to maintain focus on remaining fixtures without immediate disruption. In parallel, Chelsea’s leadership has initiated an internal process to identify and appoint a permanent head coach for the 2026/27 season.
The search will commence promptly, with the club evaluating suitable candidates to take the reins from the start of the next campaign. This structured approach aims to ensure a smooth long-term transition while McFarlane oversees day-to-day operations until the summer.
