Federal Government to Invest $75 Million in Fintech Company Flutterwave Ahead of Planned IPO

The Federal Government of Nigeria has received presidential approval for a $75 million investment in Flutterwave, a leading African fintech company.

President Bola Tinubu granted the approval as the firm advances preparations for its initial public offering (IPO).

The investment is expected to be executed through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and forms part of Flutterwave’s broader capital-raising strategy.

At the prevailing official exchange rate of ₦1,343.64 to the US dollar, the $75 million commitment equates to approximately ₦100.7 billion.

This amount represents roughly 0.15 percent of the 2026 national budget. The move signals continued government interest in supporting key players within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy and technology sector.

The proposed stake is intended to bolster Flutterwave’s growth trajectory and enhance investor confidence as the company moves closer to listing.

This development aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s fintech ecosystem, promote innovation, and attract further capital into the financial technology space.

Additional details regarding the terms of the investment and the IPO timeline are anticipated in due course.
