A 61-year-old Nigerian national residing in the United Kingdom, identified as Anthony Adewale Sobogun, has been sentenced to 28 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of 17 sexual offences against two children.
The offences, which included repeated rape and other serious sexual abuses, occurred over a span of more than 15 years in the 1990s and early 2000s.
The victims were known to the perpetrator, and the crimes involved grave violations, including sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 13.
Sobogun, who hails from Croydon, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on 15 April 2026, following an extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Court proceedings highlighted the prolonged trauma inflicted on the survivors.
One victim revealed that Sobogun had accompanied her to an abortion clinic after she became pregnant as a consequence of the assaults, further illustrating the severity of the harm caused.
This case demonstrates the determination of UK law enforcement to deliver justice in historical child sexual abuse matters, regardless of the time that has passed.
The Metropolitan Police have reiterated their commitment to supporting survivors and pursuing perpetrators. The substantial sentence reflects the profound impact of these crimes and underscores the principle of accountability for such grave offences.
