Major General Aminu Bande Resigns from the Peoples Democratic Party in Kebbi State

Major General Aminu Bande (Retired), the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the governorship of Kebbi State in the 2023 general elections, has formally resigned from the party.

In a letter dated Sunday, 5th April 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Nasarawa I in Birnin Kebbi, he declared that his resignation would take immediate effect.

The decision was reached after careful personal reflection and extensive consultations with his associates and other relevant stakeholders.

General Bande cited persistent instability within the Peoples Democratic Party as the primary reason for his departure. He had previously contested against the incumbent Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, in a highly competitive election that was initially declared inconclusive.

His exit is viewed as a significant development that may further test the party’s internal cohesion and long-term prospects in the state.

In his communication, the retired general indicated that he would make a formal announcement regarding his future political direction at an appropriate time.

The development has sparked widespread discussions within Kebbi State’s political community, generating considerable speculation about potential realignments and their implications for opposition politics in the region.
