A 25-year-old law student, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, tragically ended his own life at the Nigerian Law School’s Yola campus shortly after learning that he had been barred from sitting the Bar Final examinations, which commenced on December 6, 2025. The disqualification was a disciplinary sanction imposed by the institution after a series of earlier warnings issued to him.
Sources within the campus indicate that the primary reason for his exclusion was failure to satisfy the compulsory 75 percent class-attendance threshold required to qualify for the professional examinations. Because the Law School has adopted the practice of publishing the list of eligible candidates only a few hours before the papers begin, Ojajuni had no realistic chance to remedy the shortfall in his attendance record.
Deeply distraught upon receiving the news, he reportedly consumed a poisonous substance. Despite being rushed to Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola for emergency treatment, he succumbed to the effects of the poison and died on the morning of December 7.
The Nigerian Law School has so far made no official statement on the incident, while classmates and friends are coming together to organize a memorial in his honour, highlighting both his academic commitment and the intense pressures many law students face.
