First Lady Remi Tinubu Defends ₦100m Traders’ Empowerment Fund

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has addressed public reactions to the Federal Government’s ₦100 million grant for small-scale traders.

She stated that the initiative is designed to support 2,000 petty traders across various sectors, not just a single group. In her remarks, Tinubu noted that while discussions have centered on akara vendors, the program’s scope is broader. Beneficiaries also include sellers of tomatoes, roasted plantain, vegetables, and other informal market goods who face similar economic challenges.

The clarification comes in response to criticism questioning the focus of the intervention. According to the First Lady, the fund aims to strengthen grassroots livelihoods by extending support beyond one trade to multiple categories of micro-entrepreneurs.
