The Nigerian Army has terminated the service of Private Isah Emmanuel for willful disobedience after he ignored a direct cease‑fire instruction from his commanding officer during a confrontation with Boko Haram militants.
The incident occurred on the front lines when the unit, attached to the 16 Brigade Garrison, came under intense fire.
In response to the attack, the officer ordered an immediate halt to hostilities, but Private Emmanuel chose to maintain his assault, arguing that stopping could have endangered his life and those of his comrades.
According to military reports, Emmanuel’s continued firing forced the insurgents to withdraw, but his refusal to obey the standing order was recorded as a breach of discipline.
The army’s leadership emphasized that adherence to lawful commands is essential for operational safety and cohesion, and that any deviation, even under duress, must be addressed in accordance with military regulations. The dismissal was formally documented under Army Identification Number 22NA/83/7262.
Private Emmanuel, who served in the 16 Brigade Garrison, was charged with “disobedience to a standing order,” and the termination took effect on 17 November 2025. The army has not indicated whether further disciplinary action or an appeal process will follow.Give a befitting title
